YAKIMA - Larry Gilkey Jr., 64, of Yakima, beloved dad, grandpa, brother and uncle passed away peacefully April 13th at his home after a short but courageous battle with lung cancer.
Larry was born October 9, 1944 to Loren and Gail Gilkey of Yakima. He spent his entire life residing on the same family property in which he was born.
He graduated from Eisenhower in 1963, and joined the Marine Corp Reserve, where he served for 6 years. With his love for all things automotive, he went to work for Texaco, Wickstrom Motors, and Al Frank's Auto. The knowledge he gained from those early jobs inspired him to open Larry's Auto Sales in 1973. In his later years, he worked in construction, and drove a mean snow plow.
TIETON - Jim Bergin, born March 29, 1941, in Hermiston, Oregon, to Viola (Hogue) and Leland Bergin, died January 3, 2007 at Tieton, Washington.
He was a man of many interests and ideas, with not enough money or time to do all he dreamed of. He said he had lived a great life, had love and respect from family and friends, had done so much and traveled just enough to appreciate our country.
Jim was in the roofing industry all his life, but he should have been a carpenter. He loved to build things. Married 45 years to his wife Bette, he probably had a remodeling project for all but four or five of those years.
Larry A. Evans, 70, died Saturday. Mr. Evans was born in Burley, Idaho, and as a child moved to Prosser, where he was raised and educated. He served in the U.S. Army and was later employed by Paxton Sales and Service. Mr. Evans also worked in construction on the White Pass ski lift and for Wikstrom Motors.
He also owned and operated Evans Nursery. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Evans of Yakima; three daughters, Pam Matheny, Elaine Lyon and Tam Edmonston, all of Yakima; six grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara Smith of Grandview. A funeral is at 11 a.m. Friday at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church with interment at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
YAKIMA - On Wednesday April 15 Michael L. McFarland passed away peacefully at Yakima's Memorial Hospital. Mike was born January 3, 1953 to Floyd and Adeline (Fry) McFarland. He was raised and educated in Cowiche, WA, graduating from Highland High School in 1971 and later graduated from CWU. On October 11, 1975 he married Cindy Brathovde. He was a Jack-of-All-Trades. He built the family home in Cowiche, where he and Cindy raised their two daughters, Andrea and Kristen. Mike was proud to have served in the US Army, as a Yakima Policeman, and as a Yakima Fireman as well as a longtime volunteer for the Cowiche Fire Department.
