Vintiques of Yakima

.......since 1974

schliepmikeMichael Freddie "Mike" Schliep, 70, of Yakima, passed away on September 11, 2012 at University of Washington Hospital in Seattle.

Mike was born on June 8, 1942 in Richland, Washington, to Alfred C. and Elsie M. Schliep. When he was a small child, the family moved to Halloway, Minnesota.

Mike always loved things with motors. When he was old enough he helped fix motors around the farm.

The family moved back to Yakima when he was 12 years old.

He attended Washington Jr. High and graduated from Davis High in 1960. He and Pat were married on July 29, 1961, and started their family in 1962.

As we children were growing up, Dad loved to take the family camping, fishing, water-skiing, and going to family reunions every year. Through all this, Dad was a hard-working man, the owner of "Yakima Plating." And his love for working on cars - mostly classic cars. Until the day he went to the hospital he was in his shop working on a car. He loved going to car shows and swap-meets; but his favorite was "Vintiques" of Yakima. He was active in "The Vintiques" long before he was a member. He loved going to coffee every morning with his old car cronies; but the thing he loved most was the time he spent with his children and grandchildren.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; two sons: Daniel Schliep of Utah, and Jerry (Teena) Schliep of Yakima; two daughters: Julie (Trevor) Larson of Granite Falls, Washington, and Carole (Steve) Tow of Yakima; his brother Jerry (Beverly) Schliep of Grandview, Washington; seven grandchildren: Jeff Black, Angel Pedersen, Crystal Schliep, Christopher Schliep, Chase Schliep, and Wyatt Larson; and great-granddaughter, Miranda Pedersen.

Visitation will be offered on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors, 201 N. 2nd Street, Yakima. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 7809 Tieton Drive, Yakima. Interment to follow at West Hills Memorial Park, Yakima.

Memorials can be made to The American Cancer Society and Mount Olive Lutheran Church.
